Through our New Grad Program, Preceptor Training, Skills Advancement, and Respiratory Training, we provide a strong foundation in pediatric home health care. Preceptor  Training  Program

Our Preceptor Training Program is designed for COFK experienced pediatric nurses who are eager to lead, mentor, and inspire the next generation of home health clinicians. Preceptors play a vital role in supporting new graduate nurses, newly hired staff, and nurses expanding their clinical skills through uptiering.

Eligibility:

  • Open to Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)/Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs)
  • Must have a minimum of two years of pediatric nursing experience
  • Must demonstrate a willingness and ability to teach, mentor, and coach

Program Overview:

  • 4-hour Preceptor Training Course covering adult learning principles, preceptor roles & responsibilities, coaching & communication strategies, and Clinical evaluation & documentation
  • Practical guidance on how to support nurses in orientation and transition phases
  • Ongoing collaboration with the agency’s education and leadership teams

Nurse  Skill  Advancement  Program

We are excited to offer our COFK nurses the chance to advance their skills and expand their expertise in pediatric care.

Who Can Participate:

Nurses currently experienced in general pediatric care, or nurses interested in advanced nursing skills in tracheostomy and ventilator care

Program Focus:

  • Training on the care of patients with tracheostomy tubes and home ventilators.
  • Hands-on learning with advanced pediatric respiratory care.
  • Enhancing clinical competence and confidence in managing more complex cases.

Respiratory  Training  Program

At Care Options for Kids, our goal is to maintain a safe and professional environment for all of our clients, ensuring that every COFK nurse is equipped to deliver high-quality, specialized care. As part of this commitment, we provide a comprehensive accredited respiratory training program through the NJ Nursing Association to our COFK nursing staff, led by our experienced Respiratory Therapy Department.

This training focuses on tracheostomy care (Bovina, Tracoe, and Shiley) , ventilator management, and chest physiotherapy care with essential respiratory equipment, and is delivered through a combination of classroom/lab sessions and hands-on in-home instruction.

Training is conducted by licensed Respiratory Therapists and includes instruction and evaluation in the following areas:

Training Delivery

  • Classroom & Lab Setting: Hands-on, instructor-led training focused on clinical and academic best practices
  • In-Home Training & Mentoring: Personalized instruction and skills validation in the patient’s home environment
  • Ongoing Support: Continued access to Respiratory Therapists for consultation, troubleshooting, and clinical reinforcement
  • Ventilator Circuit Changes and Replacement: Training on how to change circuits including portable set ups for travel

This program ensures that our nurses are prepared to manage complex respiratory needs confidently and competently, ultimately enhancing the safety and quality of care for our most medically fragile clients.
